Teradar claims it is better than radar and lidar. Radar and lidar are the two prevailing systems that guide self driving cars and safety systems on regular old cars. 

Teradar is a solid-state sensor that sees the world using the terahertz band of the electromagnetic spectrum. Its financial backers include defense minded investors.
