The Ordinance goal is to standardize:
- the type
- quality
- quantity
- of all electric vehicle charging infrastructure
- installed in future commercial and residential projects
What are the practical implications:
- 15% of the total number of required parking spaces would need to be “pre-wired” EV spaces in commercial buildings
- 10% of the total number of parking spaces would have to install charging stations in commercial buildings
- projects affecting between 10,000 and 25,000 square feet, 5% of parking spaces must be wired for EV charges + at least 1 EV parking space
- project affecting more than 25,000 square feet, 10% of parking spaces wired for EV chargers + 1 space + 1% of the total number of required parking stalls must have EV chargers
- Residential buildings iwth 3+ units must conduit and wiring to allow the future installation of a charging station for each unit
- Voluntary EV chargers at expanded or altered residential buildings
