Makerspaces date back to 1821 at the Mechanics Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland. They are spaces that help residents learn, create, and even launch businesses. The first noted version in the U.S. was in 2011 in an east coast library.
Rural U.S. is seeing benefits of makerspaces from rural kids being accepted to out of state universities like Texas A&M to residents delving into entrepreneurship.
