Finance & Revenue
To fund local waste management programs, Connecticut has a nickel per nip tax, which is a surcharge on tiny liquor bottles. That’s 50 ml and smaller.
The tax generated revenue amounted to $4.9 million from 2024 to 2025. After which, the tax revenue is reallocated to local jurisdictions where the liquor is sold. Some towns want to expand the tax revenue’s use to cover drunk driving initiatives and public safety.
