Bonjour property tax alternative: Payment in Lieu of Taxes

A data center in West Feliciana Parish will receive up to $90 million a year in new revenue through a 30-year agreement.

How? In lieu of property taxes from the data center, the local government will receive Payment in Lieu of Taxes or PILOT courtesy of a newly formed nonprofit public corporation.

The practical terms are that the data center will transfer its property to the local government which in turn will lease it back to the data center for rent which would replace property taxes.
