Legislative trend: sweepstakes bans

A new gaming bill is gaining traction that bans sweepstakes casinos. If you’re like me, you’re asking what in the world is a sweepstakes casino? Seems to be online gaming. There is at least 1 trade association, the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance. 

California legislature passed AB 831 to ban sweepstakes casinos. The bill is awaiting the Governor’s signature. Louisiana governor vetoed a similar ban stating that the Louisiana Gaming Control Board already had authority to take enforcement action. Sweepstakes casinos are restricted in CT, DE, ID, KY, LA, MD, MI, MT, NV, NJ, NY, OH, WA & WV
